Two epic cities and one tremendous cast introduced themselves to Broadway July 17, as the players and crew of September's upcoming Tale of Two Cities assembled for a press-worthy meet and greet at New 42nd Street Studios. Stars including James Barbour, Brandi Burkhardt, Kevin Earley, Gregg Edelman, Aaron Lazar and Natalie Toro, along with a talented cast of over 30, previewed four songs from the larger-than-life production (after only two days of rehearsal together!), set to begin previews at the Hirschfeld Theatre on August 19. Following their formal introduction, the cast took the show on the road, rolling across the Hudson to a New Jersey location for a special sneak peek at the big show's equally grand set, which is living across the river until it officially moves into its Broadway home.

The just-ended 2007-08 Broadway season inspired many "Year of" headlines: "The Year of the Play," "The Year of the Musical Revival," "The Year of the Sound Designer" (this being the first time they were Tony Award-eligible). Yet one category that received minimal coverage was "The Year of the Newcomer." Sandwiched between the legendary shows of Styne, Sondheim and Rodgers & Hammerstein, last season's new musicals In the Heights and Glory Days were linked by one fascinating fact: they were written by people who had never composed a full-length, professional musical before. Ever.
